When You Know Skin, But Not Shutter Speed
Let’s get one thing straight: I know skincare. I know ingredient decks, formulation science, the perfect moment to extract a blackhead, and exactly how long to leave an enzyme mask on before it goes from “glow” to “yikes.”
But when it comes to cinematic product reveals?
Transitions?
Perfect lighting?
Don’t get me started on editing apps…
Let’s just say this season of business has been one long blooper reel.
The Glamour You See vs. the Chaos You Don’t
You see a 12-second video with dreamy mist, silky serums, and flawless lighting.
What you don’t see is:
-
Me filming the same product pour six times because the label kept turning the wrong way.
-
A tripod collapsing mid-shot, nearly taking out the Twilight Transformation.
-
Me yelling at a bottle to “just sit still and be photogenic for ONCE.”
-
That one time I got the perfect shot… and realized I forgot to hit record.
It’s not glamorous. It’s not polished. But it’s real — and somehow, that’s what makes it worth it.
Why I Keep Trying (Even When I Want to Launch My Osmo Across the Room)
Because every single product is infused with intention.
With care.
With two hands and a whole lot of heart.
And it deserves to be shown in a way that feels like that — even if the journey from lab to lens is awkward, unfiltered, and full of learning curves.
What I’ve Learned So Far
-
Good lighting fixes a lot. But so does good enough lighting.
-
Your first 10 videos will suck. Maybe your first 30. That’s okay.
-
People don’t need perfection. They want connection. Show the behind-the-scenes. Show the missteps. Show your human side — because that’s what builds trust.
If you’re out there...
Trying to build your dream business while googling “how to transition your product from one hand to another without it looking like a gremlin filmed it” — I see you. I am you.
Just like skincare, consistency is the secret. I’ll get better. So will you.
In the meantime, enjoy the messy magic as we figure it out one reel at a time.
PS — If you see one of my reels and think, “Wow, that looks good,” just know it took 47 tries, two pep talks, and a cat walking across the background.
And still, we post it. Because done > perfect. Always.
With love and unfiltered bloopers,
