When Osiris Steals the Spotlight: The Chaos of Filming with Farm Animals
They say never work with children or animals, but here at Pampered Aesthetics, we like to keep life... interesting. The plan was simple: film a charming YouTube introduction of Vlad, our newest (and very underweight) Belgian horse, and showcase a slice of the heartwarming, chaotic farm life that balances our small business. What we didn’t plan for? Osiris—our ever-so-curious and usually lazy horse—deciding it was the perfect moment to reinvent himself as an equestrian daredevil.
Yes, friends, Osiris jumped a fence. The same Osiris who has never shown an ounce of interest in testing his boundaries suddenly transformed into a four-legged Houdini, leaving us with a viral moment that was less “calm, serene countryside” and more “high-stakes rodeo.”
The day started off smoothly. Vlad, bless his gentle soul, was ready for his close-up. His curious yet shy demeanor was the perfect juxtaposition to Osiris’ usual chill vibes. The camera was rolling, the lighting was perfect, and we were seconds away from capturing some farm magic.
And then Osiris decided that today was the day to assert his dominance over both gravity and our expectations. With an audacious kick of his heels and a look that screamed, “Watch this!” he soared over the fence. The once docile, fence-respecting Osiris left us in shock and scrambling to decide which was more important—rescuing him or getting the camera to keep recording.
Here’s the thing about working with animals, especially large ones: they don’t care about your timeline. They don’t care about your YouTube content, your lighting, or your carefully crafted plans. They care about what they want, and sometimes, that means jumping fences or throwing temper tantrums mid-filming.
This is real life, unedited and unpredictable. And honestly? That’s the beauty of it. Owning a business—and running a farm—requires a whole lot of flexibility. You can either laugh through the chaos or cry in the corner. (We chose laughter, though crying was a close second.)
Needless to say, the day didn’t go according to plan. We pivoted, as any good business owner (and horse owner) must. Vlad’s introduction took a back seat to corralling Osiris and ensuring everyone stayed safe. By the time we got him back where he belonged, Vlad was thoroughly unimpressed with the whole ordeal, and we were out of daylight.
But here’s the thing: even when things go sideways, there’s always a lesson or a moment worth sharing. Sometimes the story isn’t what you planned to tell—it’s what happens when your plan goes up in (metaphorical) flames. And if Osiris wants to steal the show by being the world’s least predictable jumper, well, at least it makes for a good blog post.
So, what’s the moral of this little misadventure? Life doesn’t always follow your script. Sometimes you have to pivot, adapt, and hope for the best. And when all else fails, just roll with it and share the chaos—it’s more relatable anyway.
Keep an eye on our YouTube channel to meet Vlad properly (we promise he’s worth the wait), and maybe you’ll catch Osiris in the background, planning his next escape. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that life on the farm—and in business—is never boring.
Until next time, here’s to jumping fences, literal and metaphorical. 🐴
