The Struggles of a Solo Aesthetician When Injury Strikes
As a small business owner, particularly in a solo Aesthetician setting, the pressures of maintaining a successful practice can feel overwhelming even under the best of circumstances. But what happens when the unexpected occurs—like a foot injury from a horse? The reality is, as a self-employed aesthetician, you don’t have the luxury of sick days or a team to lean on. You’re the face of the business, the hands behind the treatments, and the heart that keeps it all running smoothly.
Recently, I found myself in just such a predicament. After a mishap with a horse, I ended up with a pretty significant foot injury. And while resting up, elevating, and healing sounds like the ideal scenario, that’s just not possible when you’re a small business owner. The truth is, there are no paid sick days or substitutes to call in. The show must go on, even when you’re hobbling along, hoping for the best.
When you run a solo practice, the physical demands are high. It’s a profession that requires standing, moving, and using your body constantly. Every facial, every treatment, every consultation—it all involves effort, and an injury can make that ten times harder. Yet, as a Mum and business owner, we power through. Why? Because there are no other options. The clients keep coming, the business needs to run, and there’s simply no one else to pick up the slack.
Working through an injury like this can feel like an uphill battle. You wake up each morning knowing it’s going to be a challenge, but the passion for your business keeps you moving forward. It’s not just about finances, though that’s a big part of it—it's also about commitment to your clients. You don’t want to cancel appointments and disappoint the people who trust you with their skincare and well-being. So, you grit your teeth and keep going, even if it means things take a little longer, and you’re moving a bit slower.
If you see me hobbling around over the next few weeks, rest assured I’m still here, still working, and still dedicated to providing the best services I can. It just might take me a little longer to get to the door to greet you!
The lesson in all of this? Running a business, especially in a solo aesthetician setting, isn’t always glamorous. It’s hard work, and sometimes, it's physically painful. But at the end of the day, it's also incredibly rewarding. Despite the struggles and challenges, there’s no place I’d rather be.
Injury or not, the work doesn’t stop—and neither do I.
Pampered Aesthetics is here for you, as always, with the same commitment to excellence and care, even if it’s delivered with a slight limp for now!
