Flippen Beautiful

Flippen Beautiful

Today I’m taking you on a refinishing furniture journey . More specifically the fabric on chairs . Admittedly I am not the most useful person, I will take on tasks that I know I’m capable of . As most of you know we lost everything in a house fire last January. The kitchen table set was the one from my childhood . It was such a solid heavy wood , it worked well for us . We needed to replace our life we sought out to find a new kitchen table set but we’re a bit put off on the quality of the new products out there . We have a unique style , this time around the Sun we decided we wouldn’t purchase items for the sake of needing them, but make due with what we had until we found something that we truly loved . I found a beautiful table on market place that we adored , the chairs were alright . The bones were good but the colour of the fabric didn’t quite suit the aesthetic we were trying to achieve for that particular room . I knew that I was in no way capable of refurbishing fabric myself , but wasn’t fully committed to the price tag of having someone else re apolster 12 chairs . Upon talking to a friend she mentioned painting the fabric I was skeptical but decided to dive a little deeper, I mean I could paint … sort of not well. I reached out to Erika at Flippen Beautiful in Cobourg she sells a specific paint ( fusion ) which was the reccomended paint for this endeavour . She invited me to come into the shop to take a look at a project she was working on . Tanner and myself went in not to look at the chair but because I decided this project couldn’t wait any longer and I was going to do it immediately I mean if I messed up we’d be down to 12 chairs . Erika not only explained the entire process but was extremely reachable for any questions via social media , and was incredibly encouraging despite my lack of skill. The first layer we painted was 2/3 water to 1/3 paint . We let it dry completely . I truly reccomend a cloth underneath the chair , we didn’t and it made quite the mess . Once that was completely dry we did a coat of 1/2 water , and half paint . After this layer we finished with beeswax. If you aren’t happy with the result of the colour you do a third coat of straight up paint. We were painting a textured fabric , the fabric itself was really quite beautiful, I just preferred it to be black opposed to the gold . Paige and I promptly finished two more chairs and ran out of paint . We were very fortunate to message Erika via social media and she ordered us more right away . In the end all 12 chairs we required 4 jars of paint , we would only have required three if we didn’t have nosey puppy’s that jumped up to see what was happening right into our paint tray . This was 100% our fault , we should have had a clean working space free of pets . However we don’t really operate like that in our house , and sometimes chaos ensues . It is what it is , when the children are older it’ll make some good stories . I can’t tell you exactly what this project cost us as Tanner reads my blog posts , but I’m my opinion it was incredibly reasonable . If you ever have the urge to freshen up furniture, or in our case make it dark and twisty . Check out Erika’s store on division street in cobourg. If I can do it anyone can . It’s nice to change your living space around but also to support local in the process . Erika also runs classes so that’s a fun option! Attached are the before and after photos of the chairs . These will be in our dining room when we move back home and I am so excited for this . Erika calls it repurposing , we truly just prefer older things it’s suits our style . Check out her store , give her a follow on social media . And if you don’t already make sure you subscribe to our website Www.pamperedaesthetics.ca
