Don't Look Up, at Pampered Aesthetics

Attention to detail. This is something we all write on our resumes when looking for a job, hoping that it helps us stand out or makes us a better employee. How many of us pay that much attention to detail?
Here at Pampered Aesthetics, I assure you that we do pay attention to detail in every aspect. Even before we opened our doors, we wanted to provide a top-notch experience to our clients. It is a mystifying experience designing a space that isn’t quite built yet, taking on the projects ahead of time so that when we were able to do them, there wouldn’t be any more delays.
It’s not mystic information that we have an eclectic style, much preferring décor from a time long since passed. It’s a wild time trying to achieve this is a new built home on a very limited budget. We set to work trying to make the very most out of the space and budget possible. Old tin roofs have been a love of mine. I was even considering the plastic knock off version. The trouble is, no matter which way you sliced it, I would need to paint as black wasn’t common, and if you could find it…..it was quite expensive.
We also love shopping local and supporting small, family run businesses. There is a store not too far from us ( in Warkworth Ontario ) that sells reclaimed construction items. Social media has many draw backs, but it also offers its fair share of benefits. It feeds my shopping problem, with not being out and about much these days. It’s pretty specular when the items you desire pop right up into your Instagram feed. Fate, perhaps? I suppose this depends on whom you talk to. Tanner might call it annoying as he’s the one always sent to pick up and pay for the items... insert smiley face here. ‘The Historic Salvage’ posted about these tin ceiling tiles. Off we went on an adventure, at this time they had barely even started our house construction and we had nowhere to store them. We were fortunate enough they stored them for us until we were ready to start processing them.
Some months later when we picked up the tiles and Paige and I set to work. Since they were reclaimed, the paint was chipping and multi coloured, and in all likeliness lead based. We took a steel brush type thing over the tiles. I’m sure when Tanner edits this he will put in the correct name, as we just helped ourselves to his tools (it’s called a wire brush). We took this overtop trying to scrape off any of the loose paint. Our next trip was to Benjamin Moore, they sold us a primer that would work for our intended purpose. We finished off by painting it a black satin…Benjamin Moore again.
In the spa there ended up being a weird bulkhead that wasn’t in the original design due to duct work that wasn’t accounted for that didn’t accommodate the tin tiles. Mr. Pampered had to think on his feet, we ended up painting that portion black satin and installing the tin on the rest of the ceiling. Please note by we I mean Tanner, I supervised and questioned him non-stop but was in no way productive to that portion of the project.
I might be bias, but the end result is absolutely stunning and, in my opinion, pulls the spa together. (Tanner also made crown moulding to go with it) Not a single day goes by that I don’t get compliments on the ceiling. (Tanner did not make the crown moulding…..Tanner merely installed said crown moulding Jess…I need more tools to make crown moulding…hint hint hint.)
We started this project being budget friendly but in the process we made so many memories that will be with me forever and hopefully with our goblins too.
If you are in the area of Warkworth Ontario, Canada, I highly recommend you stop and say HI to Nathaniel and his family at his beautiful shop…..Historic Salvage. Give them a like and follow on the socials as well.
