Breathing Life Into an Empty Shell: Wall Moulding and Making a House a Home
They say home is where the heart is, but what happens when your house feels more like an empty shell? For us, that’s been the reality ever since the fire turned our dreams of an old, character-filled home into something far more sterile. A year and a half later, we’re finally taking steps to bring our vision back to life, one painstaking project at a time.
Our latest endeavor? Wall moulding. Because nothing says “timeless charm” quite like the intricate details that come with classic, old-world design. It’s a nod to our love of all things vintage, a way to reclaim the warmth and personality that the fire stripped away.
When you’re a small business owner, time is your most precious commodity. With Pampered Aesthetics running full steam ahead, I only get two days off a month to tackle anything outside of the spa. Two days to plan, prep, and execute whatever renovation project we’ve set our sights on. Let’s just say, it’s not exactly HGTV-level efficiency.
But as chaotic as our schedule is, there’s something deeply satisfying about working on the house after hours. From 9 PM to the early hours of the morning, it’s just us, a pile of wood trim, and a shared determination to bring this house back to life. Sure, it’s messy. There’s sawdust in places sawdust should never be, and I’ve lost count of the times I’ve stubbed my toe on tools we “temporarily” left out. But this chaos? It’s part of the process.
Wall moulding is more than just a design trend for us—it’s a way to bring back the character we’ve always envisioned for our home. There’s a depth and richness to moulding that transforms blank walls into something worthy of admiration. It’s the little details that make a big difference, pulling the room together and giving it that cozy, lived-in feel.
For this project, we’re focusing on the dining room, a space that feels particularly devoid of personality right now. With its wide-open walls and lack of warmth, it’s the perfect canvas to showcase the transformation that wall moulding can achieve.
If you think we’re breezing through these projects with a smile and a paintbrush, let me stop you right there. The truth is, behind every polished Instagram photo is a lot of late-night decision-making, trial and error, and a fair share of grumbling about mismeasured cuts.
But that’s what makes this journey so special. It’s not about perfection; it’s about the process. It’s about seeing potential in the chaos and knowing that, little by little, we’re creating something that feels like home again.
As much as I’d love to snap my fingers and have this project magically completed, the reality is far slower (and dustier). But we’re documenting every step along the way. From sneak peeks during Tinker Tuesdays to the grand reveal in an upcoming YouTube video, we can’t wait to share this transformation with you.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about adding moulding to a wall. It’s about breathing life into a house that lost so much, reclaiming a sense of home, and finding joy in the messy chaos that happens between 9 PM and 9 AM.
Stay tuned, friends. The best is yet to come.
